Few know this, but St. Joseph was also present in the vision of Sister Lucy
About the apparitions of the Virgin of Fatima in Portugal many people must have heard of the “Miracle of the Sun” of 1917, but few know that St. Joseph was also present in the vision of Sister Lucy.
The Servant of God and the seer of Fatima, Sister Lucy, described the apparition in her memoirs: “Missing Our Lady, in the distance from the firmament, we saw, next to the sun, Saint Joseph with the Child and Our Lady dressed in white, with a blue cloak. Saint Joseph and the Child seemed to bless the World with gestures that they did with the hand in the form of a cross. ”
“This reiterates the importance of the role of St. Joseph within the Church. It says a lot about our world today. It is the silent giant, a forgotten friend who is constantly present, “explained Mike Wick, executive director of the Institute on Religious Life, an apostolate that promotes and supports the growth, development and renewal of consecrated life.
In addition, Wick said that the presence of the Holy Family in the last apparition of Fatima is a “timely reminder” that the Church should be the “family of God.”
“Saint Joseph, who is the head of the Holy Family, gives us great instruction about God’s plan,” he added.
In this sense, Msgr. Joseph Cirrincione, a scholar for more than 40 years of the Fatima apparitions, detailed in his book “St. Joseph, Fatima and Fatherhood “(1989) that apparitions are definitely a reminder of the importance of fatherhood.
“The paternity of St. Joseph, as with all human parents, is the reflection in a creature of the fatherhood of God the Father. The vision of St. Joseph and the Child Jesus blessing the world with Mary beside the sun, which did not leave the his place, is the assurance of God that, although man may reject him, God will never reject man, “he emphasized.
When the peaceful family scene is interrupted by the twists of the sun during the Miracle of the Sun, Mons. Cirrincione believes it is “an ominous omen of the consequences for the world, who will certainly feel if the true fatherhood of God and the traditional strong role of the father of the family are rejected by humanity.”
“The Miracle of the Sun represents not so much a threat of future evils but an omen of the dethronement of God the Father and an indication of the terrible consequences that will follow,” he said.
Mons. Cirrincione explained that “human fatherhood, as a reflection of God’s fatherhood, was designed to be the pillar of the family,” and that the “disappearance of esteem for paternity has led to the collapse of this pillar and the disintegration of the family.”
In the ninth century, Pope Leo XIII consecrated the month of October to the Virgin of the Rosary – a title with which Mary called herself at Fatima – and in her encyclical Quamquam Pluries (Devotion to Saint Joseph) of 1889, the Pope asked ” that the Christian people constantly invoke, with great devotion and trust, together with the Mother of God, her chaste husband Saint Joseph. ”
Because devotion to Saint Joseph was “very important,” this Pope wrote and offered a prayer to the Holy Custodian for recitation after the Rosary during the month of October.
