Spiritual warfare is a real battle Christians face in their walk with God. Often times, spiriutal warfare can take place at night. This can result in night terrors or bad dreams. Thankfullt, Jesus has already won the war and that through His blood and power, we can conquer the enemy and rest in His protection over us.
What is a spiritual warfare prayer? Spiritual warfare prayers are powerful weapons Christians use against their very real enemy Satan. Christians should pray when they are battling spiritual warfare. These prayers can help to caste out demons and ask the Lord to bring His presense wherever you are.
If you’re experiencing spiritual warfare, here are 5 spiritual warfare prayers I found to help you sleep.
1. In Jesus’ Name
Whatever you ask in my name, I will do it so that the Father may be glorified in the Son.If you ask me anything in my name, I will do it.
John 14:13-14 CSB
Jesus’ name is powerful, the most powerful name there is. Because Jesus died and rose again and then ascended to the throne on the right hand of God, He has all authority over all the earth. Now when we pray in His name, chains fall off of us and the devil flees, so pray this with me:
Dear God, even though I can feel the spiritual battle going on, I know you are by my side and with me always. So I pray in Jesus’ name, that you would crush the devil underneath your feet, and I command all darkness to run and hide in response to your presence.
You are here, right now Holy Spirit, thank you for being near me. I declare your name as holy and beautiful Jesus because that is who you are. I ask in your powerful and loving name that you fill me with your peace and comfort so that I can rest and sleep, and when the morning comes I will rejoice in you because you deserve the glory. In Jesus’ name, I pray, amen.
2. Psalm 23
The Lord is my shepherd; I have what I need. He lets me lie down in green pastures; he leads me beside quiet waters. He renews my life; he leads me along the right paths for his name’s sake. Even when I go through the darkest valley, fear no danger, for you are with me; your rod and your staff—they comfort me.

Lord, you are my shepherd, you guide me. Because I have you, I have everything that I need, including the ability to rest and sleep. You help me to lie down in peaceful places, you lead me to quiet waters. Thank you, God.
You renew my life, and I know that sleep helps renew me also, so lead me into peaceful rest for your name’s sake. Your goodness in my life glorifies your name, even the goodness of sleeping.
Even when I am in the darkest place of my life, you are with me. I won’t fear the darkness any longer because you comfort me. You are protecting me, Jesus. Thank you, Amen.
You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Only goodness and faithful love will pursue me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord as long as I live.
Psalm 23:5-6 CSB
Lord, you prepare a place of rest for me even when my enemies are near. Even when it is chaotic you fill me up with your love and rest. Even when life is the hardest it can be, you anoint me and it is beautiful.
Every day of my life, even the dark ones when I cannot sleep, your goodness and faithful love pursue me. I will dwell and stay with you, Lord. I will sleep and rest in your house as long as I live. In Jesus’ name, amen.
3. The Lord is My Salvation
The Lord is my light and my salvation— whom should I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life— whom should I dread? When evildoers came against me to devour my flesh, my foes and my enemies stumbled and fell. Though an army deploys against me, my heart will not be afraid; though a war breaks out against me, I will still be confident.
Psalm 27:1-3 CSB
Lord, you are my light in this darkness. Shine your light in this battle and make the darkness flee, it has no place here.
God, you are my salvation, there is no one to be afraid of. You are my stronghold and keep me safe. When evil comes against me and tries to destroy me, it is pitiful compared to your great love.
The enemy and evil will fall, and even though it is a great army, Lord you are greater. My heart can calm down now because I am not afraid. Though I am in this spiritual war, I will be confident in who you are and your capability to help me rest and sleep.
4. Do Not Be Afraid
When you lie down, you will not be afraid; you will lie down, and your sleep will be pleasant. Don’t fear sudden danger or the ruin of the wicked when it comes, for the Lord will be your confidence and will keep your foot from a snare.
Proverbs 3:24-26 CSB
God, you know when I lie down and sit up. You know my body needs sleep, but I don’t know how to not be afraid without you. I miss your presence God, so come now and defeat the enemy by giving me rest.
When I lie down I will not be afraid, because I believe in you and everything you do for me God is out of love and for your glory. Make my sleep pleasant, and don’t let sudden danger or fear overtake me when it comes. It will come, but I am confident that you are greater and more powerful than it God.
You will keep me safe God, thank you for your protection. In Jesus’ name, I pray all these things, amen.
5. Jesus Overcomes
I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.
John 16:33 ESV
Jesus, you knew that this world would be hard. You know what I am going through. But, you have spoken over me so that I may have peace even in the midst of spiritual warfare. Even in the battle, you are giving me peace, so help me accept that and believe it.
You came to this world and experienced tribulation and warfare for us, Jesus. Not only did you experience it but your overcame it, you have conquered it. So, I ask in your name Jesus, that you would overcome the evil in my life.
I believe that you came to love me and give me peace, and so come and conquer this spiritual battle and help me rest, Jesus. I can have peace and take heart because you took away evil for me. Thank you, Jesus amen.
Sweet Dreams
Even in the midst of a spiritual battle, you can know that Jesus is with you and loves you endlessly. He wants to fight for you, so continue to pray these prayers to help you sleep well and rest in His presence.
The enemy may be trying to harm you, but God is protecting you so much more and wants you to see that in Jesus’ name, you don’t have to be afraid. He is your salvation. He is overcoming evil so that you can sleep well and have sweet dreams.
