Our husbands are the leaders of our families and desperately need our prayers. While God is a God who is after the hearts of our husbands, the Enemy is also after them as well.
We need to trust God with our prayers and daily surrender our marriage and our husband to the Lord. By intentionally praying over our spouse, we are investing in his role as our spiritual leader and learning to trust God.
Proverbs 31:11-12 says, “The heart of her husband trusts in her, and he will have no lack of gain. She does him good, and not harm, all the days of her life.”
To do our husbands good, we must ask for great things for them. We must pray strong prayers for them— powerful prayers for them. Our words aren’t meant to just float over them. Our words are meant to protect them, to lift them up, to encourage them and to help them become the men God needs them to be.
We have no other more intimate relationship on this earth than the one we have with our husbands. Praying intentionally for our husbands allows us to reflect that intimacy. After all, who better can know when something is on your husband’s mind? We can go before the Lord and ask to protect our husband from the Enemy who tries to prey on those weaknesses.
Finally, prayer tells your husband that he is important. We are all busy wives and moms and sisters and daughters, but praying strong prayers for our husbands show that we value them.
Here are 10 strong prayers to pray for your husband.
1. A Strong Marriage
Ask God to help strengthen and grow your marriage so that you may “live in peace with each other” (1 Thessalonians 5:13). Pray that your husband would know the love that Jesus showed in loving his church, and in turn, pray that you are able to serve, love and respect him. A marriage that mirrors God’s love is stronger than any other marriage because selfless love comes only from God’s goodness. Ask that your marriage be built on a foundation that seeks God, rather than the things of this world. Pray that through it all, God will be glorified in your marriage.
2. A Strong Walk with God
Pray that your husband continues to grow spiritually throughout your marriage. Pray also that he seeks God through his own prayer and through Bible reading and studies. Pray that he thirsts to know God deeply. May he be a man that leads your household with a heart guided by the Lord. Pray that his walk is fruitful and that he learns to guard his heart from the temptations of the world and that he has the courage to always seek the Lord even through the tough times. “Praise the Lord! Blessed is the man who fears the Lord, who greatly delights in his commandments!” (Psalm 112:
3. A Strong Satisfaction in God
Likewise, pray that your husband finds satisfaction in God alone instead of in the words of men. Ask God to daily remind his mind and heart that God is always his ultimate father and protector. God will never pass him over when a reward is due. God is faithful to those who love him. Pray that he will be a man of wisdom and will understand that God’s word is powerful. Ask God to speak clearly to your husband and for your husband to find peace in God’s words in all times. “The fear of the Lord is instruction in wisdom, and humility comes before honor” (Proverbs 15:33).
4. A Strong and Blessed Life
Ask God to bless your husband’s work and home life. Ask God to allow your husband to thrive at work as he does his job and home as he leads your household. Pray that his career his successful and his leadership and other strong characteristics shine in the workplace. Ask God to allow others to see God’s grace through your husband’s dedication. Also, pray that at home, your husband leads your family well and builds your family. “Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain” (1 Corinthians 15:58).
5. A Strong Desire to Praise God
Ask God to give your husband a strong desire to praise God in all things. Let the name of God always be on your husband’s lips. Pray that he will serve the Lord and use his spiritual gifts and always be willing to praise God in the ups and downs of life. May he be a man that is constantly reminded of the Lord and constantly turns his family back to the Lord. “ But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be the glory both now and to the day of eternity. Amen” (2 Peter 3:18).
6. A Strong Man of Character
Pray that God molds your husband into a man that has integrity and that is honest in his work and at home. Ask God to keep him from falling into traps of temptation, but instead to build his spirit into a man that reflects Christ, a man that others want to model. Pray that he is humble and serves others unselfishly and speaks kindly of others. Pray that others will always see God reflected in his character. “Moreover, he must be well thought of by outsiders, so that he may not fall into disgrace, into a snare of the devil” (1 Timothy 3:7).
7. A Strong Leader
Ask God to help your husband become a strong spiritual leader in your home. He’ll need your support and encouragement as he guides your family. Ask God that you’ll be able to trust in his guidance and that you’ll be able to encourage his development as a leader. Ask God to open his heart to becoming a strong leader and also providing the tools for him to become a wise and gentle leader. Pray that he is able to protect and provide for you, but also that he is able to lead your household wisely toward glorifying God. “Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her” (Ephesians 5:25-26a).
8. A Strong Servant
On the other hand, pray that your husband is able to be a servant for the Lord. Pray that he will be willing to do what God asks when he is called and that he will have a humble spirit when he works. Ask that he will refrain from grumbling or complaining when neighbors and friends ask for help, but instead that he will have a cheerful heart to help. Pray that he submit his time to the Lord “not by the way of eye-service, as people-pleasers, but as bondservants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart” (Ephesians 6:6).
9. A Strong Mind
Pray for the destruction of any temptations or impure thoughts your husband might entertain in his mind. May God renew his mind each day so that it becomes a place where God can work and build there to shape him into the man God wants him to be. Pray that your husband will turn his thoughts over to God and resist the temptation to indulge in any impure thoughts. May his eyes and his mind only be for you, his wife. Ask that his thoughts be blessed and guarded by God. “I am my beloved’s, and his desire is for me” (Song of Solomon 7:10).
10. A Strong Father
Ask God to help your husband become a strong and good father to his children and that he love them always. May he be happy to spend time with them and eager to show them love. Pray that he will bring them up in the church and in a community of believers that will also love them. If he is not yet a father, pray for his future children or that he would find a young person to mentor and pass on his wisdom. “What you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses entrust to faithful men, who will be able to teach others also” (2 Timothy 2:2).
